Hi Porsche fan! I’ve already told you what electromobility means here. Today we’re talking about hybrid cars. You’ll find out what this topic has to do with electromobility, what the term means, which engine is behind it and much more.

The word ‘hybrid’ comes from Latin. It means ‘composed of two things’ or ‘mixed’. A hybrid car is called that because it has two different engines. A Porsche Hybrid has an electric motor and a petrol engine. So different engines are used.

A hybrid can thus use the advantages of both engines. It uses less petrol. And because of the electric motor, it is also better for the environment because it produces less toxic exhaust fumes. The battery of the electric motor does not have to be charged separately. The hybrid does that automatically while driving.

Porsche has various hybrid models, for example the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid or the Panamera Hybrid. And you can recognise them immediately! Because the lettering and brakes of a Porsche Hybrid are bright green. This colour even has its own name at Porsche: It’s called Acidgreen.

Now you know what a hybrid is. Next week we will continue with the topic of electromobility. Tom will explain what an electric car is. See you then!

Yours, Tina
