What’s Up
3rd June 2022 l For Racing Drivers l 2-3 minutes

Hello racing driver! Today we are talking about a very special race: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. You can find out in this blog post what this race is all about and what makes it so special for Porsche. Read on at full throttle right now!

Le Mans in France hosts the 24-hour race every year. This race lasts one day and one night! In order for the race drivers to sleep in between, they take turns driving. In this race, the car manufacturers test the reliability and the level of development of their cars.

Porsche is the only automobile manufacturer to have participated in this race without interruption since 1951. During this time, Porsche race cars have already claimed a total of 19 overall victories and 108 class wins. More than anyone else! As you can see, Porsche has already set a lot of records at Le Mans.

For the overall victory, the racing team at Le Mans receives a turbo-strong challenge cup. The team is then allowed to keep the trophy for a year until it is handed over to the next overall winner. Porsche was allowed to keep a challenge cup because the team won three times in a row. It is now in the Porsche Museum.

Porsche’s history at Le Mans is really impressive, isn’t it? Next week, Tina will take you into the world of sound design. See you then!

Yours, Tom

Did you already know?
Even the start at the 24-hour race in Le Mans was spectacular! Until 1969, drivers had to run across the track to their cars for the start. That’s why the ignition lock at Porsche is still to the left of the steering wheel today. Because that way, the drivers could start faster.
