Hey you! You’ve probably noticed the crest on Porsche cars already? It shines in gold and has many fine details. You can even find several of them on and inside every Porsche. Today you can find out how it was created and what the individual details mean.

The crest was created in 1952, 70 years ago. At that time it was on the steering wheel, or more precisely on the horn. Two years later it was added to the bonnet. You can still find it there today. Since then, the crest has hardly changed. Look how many crests you can find on and in a Porsche?

Every detail on the crest has a special meaning. The horse in the middle is the ‘Stuttgarter Rössle‘. It stands for the city of Stuttgart in southwest Germany. This is the home of Porsche. Tom and I are often there, for example in the Porsche Museum. Come and visit us sometime!

Behind the horse you see the colours red and black and antlers. That’s from the crest of the Württemberg-Hohenzollern family. The colours are also the state colours of Baden-Württemberg, a federal state of Germany. Above it, the well-known Porsche lettering connects all the individual parts like a roof.

Have you learned something new about the crest? Next week we’ll be talking about the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix and what Porsche has to do with sports. See you then!

Yours, Tom

Did you already know?
Every Porsche Crest is still made by hand today. That’s a big task. You have to work very precisely and neatly.
