Hi you! Today we’re talking about electromobility. Have you heard about it? It’s a really big topic right now. However, electromobility is not that new for Porsche. Here you can find out why. And I’ll explain a few important basics about electric cars. Enjoy reading!

Electromobility means that a car is electrically powered, which means it has an electric motor. Electric cars therefore do not fill up with petrol or diesel, but have large batteries inside that they charge with electricity at a charging station or at a socket. You probably know this from electric bicycles.

The first Porsche ever made a long time ago was also an electric car: The Egger-Lohner electric car from 1898! It looked like a carriage, but it wasn’t pulled by horses. Instead, it ran on electricity. Since cars with electric motors didn’t get very far back then, they didn’t become popular.

Today, electric cars can drive much further and be charged much faster thanks to better batteries. The all-electric Porsche Taycan can even be charged in just 22.5 minutes! Electric cars are also quiet and do not pollute the air with toxic exhaust fumes. They are therefore good for the environment. I think that’s really great.

You see, this is a really exciting topic. I’ll tell you more about it soon! Next week, Tom will first talk about the term ‘Targa’. See you then!

Yours, Tina

Did you know?
The Porsche Taycan, today’s first all-electric Porsche, actually has over 400 hp compared to the Egger-Lohner electric car of 1898 with 2-5 hp. Wow!
